This took place several years back when a few states decided that you needed a physical exam in order to get married. I think a lot of it was to check for and prevent venereal disease.

Julie and Rob had made all the wedding plans and were about to apply for the marriage license. Julie had made the appointment for her exam with the local doctor who was the only doctor in the area.
