My induction physical went something like this: (I was a long time ago. September 1980 to be exact)
I arrived at the induction center. First, I was handed a bunch of paperwork and a cup. I was to fill in the papers where appropriate, then strip to my shorts and give a urine sample. After this was done, I was out in a group of about 20 other guys in their shorts.(We were carrying our clothes with us.) After a bit, we were all ordered to stand up, follow the line, and present the papers at each station.
We all did as bidden. We went through HEENT at one station, Cardio at another and so on, until we reached the last station. Once there we we were told to stand along the yellow line on the deck. We did squats, balance, and other such tests. Then he says "Drop your shorts to your ankles." His abrupt manner was startling, to say the least.
So the 20 or so of us dropped them, dicks swinging in the breeze, so to speak. He starts at one end of the line and first checks the genitalia. He grabs and gently squeezed the scrotum, lifted and checked the penis, and, for those of us who were uncircumcised, retract the foreskin a couple of times. Then it's "Turn your head and cough. He did this to each of us in turn, wheeling his stool from one to the other. After he got to the end of the line, we figured we were done, but, since we had not been ordered to pull up our drawers, there we stood, 20 guys who never met before that morning standing at attention with our underwear at our ankles, exposed to the world.
However, the order that came was NOT to get dressed, but to bend over, reach behind us and spread our but cheeks! Every one of us had the same look on our faces "WTF is he going to do NOW?" Regardless, we did as told. Again, he rolled his stool down the line, except this time, he was behind us. We were still wondering what was doing to happen, but all he did was inspect the spine for scoliosis, and visually inspect our butts foe hemorrhoids, or some other irregularities. When he got back to the place he started from, he told us to stand up, pull up our shorts and head to the dressing area. This we did, retrieving our paperwork once dressed. We then handed the papers to Sergent, who directed us into another room. This was NOT and exam room. There was a podium and flags there, as well as other groups that were a head of us. Soon, an officer enters, goes to the podium, and swears us in with the Oath of Enlistment.
