The entire enema event is exciting. I make each "patient" prepare for the procedure by changing into an examination gown in our "reception area". I follow them to the "procedure room", and enjoy the glimpses of their buttocks and thighs thru the gap in the back of the loosely fitting gown as they walk to the room.
Entering the room, I watch them as they view the the full (250 cc) clear enema bag, the flexible rubber tubing (which includes a large flow meter) leading to the retention enema nozzle (with the inflator cuff and blue air administration bulb) that is hanging high on the I.V. stand.
Their next glance is to the equipment stand that holds the surgical lubricant, the exam gloves, the anal speculum, the rigid proctoscope and several sizes of anal dilators.
I explain what I am going to do to them and have them position themselves on the procedure table.
One of the favorite parts is inserting the well lubricated nozzle deep into their rectum and inflating the retention cuff. Then comes the click of the valve and the surge of the enema solution into their rectum and on up into their colon.
I watch as their abdomen enlarges as the solution fills them. I frequently stop the flow and pump air into them with the blue bulb. This usually causes them to experience uncomfortable or painful cramps and spasms. Adding air also helps to distend their already huge swollen abdomen. When the bag is empty, I leave the nozzle in them to force them to hold the enema - usually for 15 minutes.
After the enema is expelled, they return for anal dilation and insertion of the rigid proctoscope, aka the SILVER STALLION.
All of my patients, male and female make return "appointments".
