Cos and gfreak,
I could go on and on and on about Northern Exposure. The DJ was Chris in the morning. He always put an interesting spin on things around that town, from where he sat he could see everything. Maurice Minnifield (sp?) was the retired Astronaut. I always loved that little NASA touch he brought to the show and to the town.
There was just so much about that show that touched me. Then and now, as I view them today I see different things in them that I didn't see when I watched them the first time. I can appreciate them more, the dynamics of the relationships and the complexities with in those relationships as well.
I grew up playing in NASA itself. I could greatly appreciate a lot of what Maurice was saying, and how he still so strongly realized the true grandeur of what NASA really is. John Glen used to hold me, and there wasn't a door at the Cape I couldn't go in back then. My mother always worried that I might "catch" something from one of those astronauts, lol. But then back then it was still thought that you got a cold from being cold, etc.
As far as Rob Morrow is concerned, well, he ran around in my dreams quite a bit when that show was out, and once in a while still shows up. I don't think they could have picked a better actor for that part, and I feel it took a "true New Yorker" to be able to really play Joel as he was meant to be played.
As far as the good doctor and Maggie were concerned, I read a piece on the show called "A Better End" that ended the show much differently. This person was trying to pitch it to CBS, and honestly, I liked her version much better as it had Maggie I believe getting the good doctor back to Alaska, and them married. But the writer removed it from the net. As crazy as it sounds, after reading this woman's "better end", it helped to tie up some issues I had and settled me with Maggie and Joel. If I could find it, I would send it to you. Consequently, I believe I read something about that moose that appeared in the open credits. I believe his name was Morty, but I could be wrong there, and also if I remember, Morty showed up unexpectedly, and just fit into the theme of the show so well, he ended up staying and being incorporated into the show's logo....or maybe they had the logo and Morty showed up, chicken or the egg thing, but made for a great opening shot for sure.
gfreak, Doc Hollywood is and will remain one of my favorite movies. While it doesn't quite have that Northern Exposure charm, it is still about a big city doc being tossed into the middle of BFE. It was so cute how he saved the pig, and how she taught him to pee on things to keep the wild life from being hunted by hunters. Oh what that city slicker must have thought about that, lol.
Ahhh, good memories, good memories.
