My actual Dr is male, but when I go in for my yearly exam his female assistant does my pelvic exam.
Personally, That's how I've wanted for LisaLaxLegs, when seeing a male physician Mostly, it hasn't been so. It's not much of an issue for us, though. We've had no problems in this regard with male practitioners. But I do believe that, were I female, I'd want a female practitioner examining me.
Having discussed it with Lisa, she feels the same way, but perhaps not as strongly. She has demonstrated that, having to choose, she chooses a physician who treats her with genuine respect, over one who happens to have two "X" chromosomes, hehe!
I prefer having my exam done by a female and don't think I would ever have another male Dr perform a pelvic on me. I had a bad experience when I was 18 and since then I have always gone to a female for any kind of female exam. I think women listen and are more sensitive to the vulnerable position you are in at the time.

I used to feel that way too. It took many experiences over many years, for me to realize that I was wrong on that. There is no necessary relationship between gender and the attributes of empathy, respect or table-side manner.
Having said that, *I* *really* empathize with you and understand your feelings! Before we met, Lisa had experienced traumatic invasive behavior (not necessarily medical-related). I am so very saddened that such things occur.
