Switchablesusie, Girlneedsdoctor, very well put and worded 😃
One of the motivators for my comments above come from first hand experience. In 1970, at the age of 18, I had a vehicle accident that resulted in 27 facial re- constructive cosmetic surgeries over the 2 1/2 following years. As a result, I became psychologically sensitized and attuned in general to cosmetic surgery. Specifically the knowledge of the natural features(chin cleft, dimples, lip curvature & shape..ect) I lost and can never again have.
As I went through the operations and talked with others who were in the clinics and hospital for elective modifications as opposed to restorative/corrective, I came to rapidly comprehend and understand what Switchablesusie mentioned above. All of those people were dissatisfied with what they had been born with. In particular, not one of them had any visible/discernible visible disfigurements or malformations, this grouping and attendant observations also included those who were there for breast modification. Towards the end of my re-construction and the year and a half of follow up, I was beginning to see some of the same people coming back because they weren't "quite satisfied yet" and being sent away fuming because the doctor(in some cases, all the doctors) told them they needed counseling, not surgery.
The surgeons were very skilled in their work on me, I am very pleased with the end result, it has stood me quite well over the ensuing decades. Compared to the ground, disfigured, hamburger horror I saw staring me in the mirror when I came to in ICU in 1970,what I see today is perfection and art, yet I will never forget what is gone.
In my case, I had no choice, it was taken. For those who have a choice and don't have to,remember this, once the initial surgery surgery is done, you will never...never again have what you had, and it can never be put back.
Sincerely,
GN. 😃
