Far out on the prairie, the Country Doctor arrived for what would be the first of many visits to the Spuckler home. In one hand he carried a familiar doctors kit bag, which held all the special tools and supplies he would need for the examination and treatment of the young widow's hysteria. He also carried with him, in a tote measuring 47" x 10" x 4", a pair of FootBoards bedside examination foot rests, of his own design. He had initially thought to profit from his invention, but decided instead to share the information with the medical community. He now hoped his idea could solve a long standing problem for many practitioners, that of the inability to perform a complete and thorough exam, due to inaccessability to the pelvis, and the constraint of patient discomfort.
He knocked on the door and was bade in. The cabin smelled like roses and cornbread. Nellie was in her bed waiting. She watched as the doctor opened the long tote and removed what looked to her like two small ironing boards. He attached a leg to one end of each of the planks, then slipped the free ends betwixt the mattress and the springs of her bed, about shoulder width apart, and splayed outward. He placed a pillow at the edge of the bed, then deftly pulled her bottom into position on top of it. Her feet met agreeable purchase below. The footboards proved most comfortable, and right soon her condition was abated.

Basic FootBoards - Two planks about 48" long, each with a leg on one end. A height adjustable leg might be a good idea, if you plan on really travelling to different beds with it, otherwise just measure the distance from the top of your box springs to the floor and add 6". If you don't have box springs, you will have to adapt and overcome. After the legs are on (maybe get click lock legs from RV supply for easy setup and takedown) slide the unlegged end between the mattresses about 18" and position them leg width apart. You could get fancy, pad them and cover with vinyl maybe.
