So I had a scheduled physical exam and fasting cholesterol test today!
I will admit my doctor is an attractive gay doctor and very professional. Since I am a manager of male go go dancers, part of their requirements are to have a yearly physical exam. One of them suggested I to should participate. So I agreed and took a form with me to the doctor today.
After paying a co-pay, waiting a few mins in the lobby, I was called back by a regular PA, weighed and then ushered to a exam room. She knew while I was there, and I gave her the form to be completed. She reviewed a few things, took vitals. and then said, doctor would be with me soon.
After only waiting a usual couple of mins, a knock on the door!! Doctor was ready!! Never leaves you waiting to long!!!
He came in and visited with me a short while. He asked a few questions...
How have you been? ...Great, busy, but good.
Any problems? ...No
Were doing a cholesterol check today and a physical right? Yes.
Have you ate any breakfast yet? ...No i said.
..and without any further wait. He got up and stood beside the exam table, put his hand inside my shirt and listened to my heart, and lungs. Had me take a couple of breaths. Looked at my ears, nose, and throat. after doing those brief usual exams he said, "looks good."
He had me lay back on the exam table, lifted the lower part of my shirt up and felt my stomach and part of my chest. and made the comment... "Nice and smooth!!" (I had shaved my chest before the appointment as I usually do every few days, as a personal gay male preference!!
Then he made a few checks on the form. Asked where I work out at... I told him which gym. He asked how often, I saw my personal trainer. I told him every two weeks.
He asked if the form was required by my trainer, I said yes. Which I was asked to provide a copy to him also, on a recent visit.
...and then he said, "I need you to stand up and have you drop your shorts and underwear so I can check for a hernia please."
without questioning, I complied and did what he asked.
and then, he sat on his stool in front and did the "turn your head and cough" routine. I was thinking... "am I going to get HARD!!! I hope not!" ...luckily I didnt.
After a minute or two, he said I could put my shorts back on. He made a check mark and read over the form a lil' bit. and then said he needed me to stand and bend down while he checked my back. He stood behind me and lifted my shirt to see and feel my back.
then said, Have a seat. Made a mark on the form and then.......
What I DIDNT expect!!!!
Form wants a prostate exam done!! "...So let me go ahead and do that. Drop your shorts once again and turn around and bend over the table for me!"
OHHH SHIT, I thought!!! I havnt ever had this done!!! I wasnt liking this idea!!! Didnt want it!!!
"ohhh geez," I said as i removed my shorts and pulled my underwear down once again.
"It has to be done, it doesnt hurt to check," said my handsome doctor.
I decided I just needed to trust him and do what he said a long time ago, and I complied. Even though I am only 29, I do believe in a full exam!!
So I dropped my shorts and he said, "bend over, rest your chest on the table.. ok."
He had slipped on a glove and lubed the glove as I dropped my shorts again. I looked at his gloved hand as I dropped my shorts...
As I rested my chest he said, "Just relax and take a breath."
I tried to do as he said, and BAM!!!! His finger went in!!!!!
After a couple seconds, "...ohhh," I said.
"Relax. Its ok," doctor said.
...and within a few seconds he was done! It was sore for just a few seconds as he touched the prostate.
He then said, "you can get dressed again. Sorry. Your prostate is at a normal size. Dont be upset with me."
I said, "I am not doctor!"
and then he went back to the form and completed it and announced I had passed. He said he still wants me to have an exam every year.
He signed the form and made a couple notes on his laptop computer. He said, "I am gonna have them make a copy of this form, and Ill have them bring it back. You did a good job! Good job at communicating needs. Ill call you with your blood work results."
I said, "ok. Thanks Doctor"
after a few seconds in the room alone, he came back in and said, "when was the last time I checked you for HIV?"
"Last year." I sad.
"ok. Can I go ahead and do that," asked the doctor?
I said Yes... and he left once again...
A few short minutes latter a knock at the door. ...OHHH SHIT!!! Its the lab lady i thought to myself. In walked a woman who i didnt recognize carrying in a caddy with blood testing supplies.
She had me set next to the counter and put the band around my arm and looked at my vein and said... "ok looks good. Are you ready?"
without thinking I said, "yes." ..I should of told her I usually lay down on the table, but kinda thought i'd be ok."
and then, POKE!!!! The blood started flowing. After about 15 seconds, I started to feel weak, and anxious to get this damn needle out of me. She said to lay my head down and breathe. I did. She said, "deep breathe, let it out.....again.....again... come on keep breathing." At that point I was really feeling weak!!!!!
Then she said, "all done! Look at me, let me see your face. Your pale. Let me get you on the table."
at that point she held on to my arm as i got on the table and she told me to lay back. She had me bend my knees, so that my knees were pointing up.
She opened the door and got the doctor. and he came back in as she stood over me, fanning me with a folder. Doctor checked my pulse... and said, "are you ok?" and held my hand for a minute.
Luckily the room temperature was nice and cool so i didnt feel to hot!!! After about 3-4 minutes he helped me up and had me stand up. The lab woman and doctor had a hold of my arms, in case if I fell. I stood there for a few minutes without a problem. At that point a nurse came in to see if I was ok, and if they needed assistance. ...and then the PA who I usually see before the doctor came in.
After a few minutes I told doctor I was ok. and he said, "are you sure?" I said yes. He asked me if I had came with my best friend(who is also a patient of his) and asked if he was in the waiting area. I said, "no."
He said, "I want you to come with him, or have him here or someone else to drive you home and look after you for a while after you have blood work done. ...I thought I told you that last time.."
"I am sorry doctor," I said.
"Its ok. I am not mad. I just want to make sure your ok, afterwords!!!," Said my doctor.
"Are you good to go now," asked my good caring doctor?
"Yes, I am good doctor. Thank you," I replied.
"Ok you can go now, take it easy for a while, and go eat!!!," said the doc.
"yes sir," I said as i walked out.
.....so that was my morning!!!!! I am glad my doctor is always so good at taking care of me.
