An update to my previous post from 2008.
Late Sept 2016 I had major belly surgery number 10, with the removal of about 2 feet of bowel. If you've never had belly surgery, understand thatfor me it's a 10/10 on the pain scale, and moving at all is intensely discomforting!
I took my own diapers to the hospital (ABU Space and Lil' Pawz brands) as I know from experience that hospital diapers SUCK!!! Though I did have a catheter in, I asked to remain diapered since I've used them 24/7 for 30+years and I'm not comfortable without them. The nurses gracefully accepted my wishes, and changed me daily to keep the sweat down and prevent rashes.
Several days after surgery I was given a suppository as I hadn't had a BM since, and that was mandatory before I could go home. It took over an hour for my bowel to waken fully, and when it did there was no stopping it. The diaper filled rapidly, and the nurses were glad to see that their "bullet" had done its job! I'm not certain how happy they were to change me, but they did it with grace and gentleness.
So, yes, to answer the original question, I've been diapered many times in the hospital and never had any problems from anyone about it.
My best to all,
Binkey
