> For the best results you may need TOR.
Thanks for those two URLs, Swichable Susie. Yes, I've heard of Tor, as I've heard of both the Deep Web and the Dark Web (two separate entities).
Prima facie, I find appalling (well, I'm staggered by) what one of the articles says: 'Only 4 percent of Internet content is visible to the general public, and the other 96 percent is hidden behind the deep web'. That offends my sensibilities, including my intellectual ones! But I can readily suppose that there may be good reason why so much stuff is blocked. Which in turn reminds me that I also get offended by the crude and unimaginative porn that IS publicly available, and the huge waste of time that getting past it involves!
I can't say that most porn or 'dirt' appeals to me, and that's not necessarily what I'm after. I have noticed that Bing and Google often seem to provide one or two items of the sort of stuff I seek, but then stop. Also, it often seems impossible to replicate one's search results next day. I must suppose that some algorithm determines what is offered in certain categories, and uses some sort of sampling technique.
But I specifically mentioned a Bing phenomenon: 'Bing [seems to sense] what you're seeking and will list similar search topics ... Here's where I get frustrated. Some of those topics are tantalising, and at least one [thumbnail] image is displayed alongside the topic. But usually, when I click on the topic, seeking that particular image, it is nowhere to be seen.' (So how come Bing puts up the image in the first place? IT must have found that image. Yet it denies it to its customers!)
That's the sort of thing I was getting at. Comments, anyone?
