I think as perhaps many of us can attest, we've either heard or expressed the sentiment, "You're putting that thermometer, where?!!", knowing it was a temperature taking to be taken rectally. Well I had a circumstance where the young lady whose rectal temperature I was to take, didn't lament where the thermometer was going, as I told her it would be best if I took her temperature (she wasn't feeling too good) rectally. She said that doing it rectally was not an issue for her. Well after the three minutes was up,I removed it, read it, wiped it off, though didn't shake it down, and set it on a piece of tissue. She picked it up, looked at it, as I didn't immediately remark on her actual temperature, and she knew how to read it, and did, but then let out quite the outburst..."This thermometer is from India??!!"" I looked at it, and said, "Apparently it is, as that's what it says."
Well after she calmed down she said getting her rectal temperature taken wasn't an issue, but if the thermometer was made in India, she didn't want me using it on her. I asked why. I guess I wasn't up on my geo political information as she very calmly said, I'm from Pakistan, and ...then she went into a bit of a diatribe. Anytime after, if she needed her temperature checked,(it was taken a few more times-US made B-D thermometer) I made sure it was a thermometer not made in India!
